I placed my order on Sep 4th, and since I wanted to split my order into 2 charges with 2 different Credit Cards, I noticed I could not, and therefore I called Amazon’s Customer service, and they told me that I could not do it, so I simply said, OK I will go to Apple site, and buy it there, and the customer service rep said, well what you can do is to buy a Gift Certificate with one of your cards, you get an e-mail right away from Amazon with that number, and use that, with your other card, and the problem is solved. it sounded simple, and I did it. I waited 1 hour, and 2 and 3, and then called Amazon again, and they said to wait couple of hours, and I will get it. I waited until 12AM Sep 5th (since I wanted to go out of US, and needed to do this before leaving), and they assured me by the time I am up, I will have that number in my in-box.

Not long after Amazon updated the U.S.-only version of the Kindle and replaced it with a new international Kindle model, the company followed suit with the larger Kindle DX. This new model–now called the “Kindle DX (Global Wireless)”–runs on AT&T’s network and can access content on cellular networks inside and outside of the U.S.

Amazon to Hike Ebook Pricing as iPad Ships
12:16 pm, February 8th, 2010, Ed Sutherland
At the time, Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ remark about ebook pricing being the same whether sold by Cupertino or Amazon seemed rather optimistic. at the time, Amazon controlled ebook pricing and the ebook market, while Apple had just released the iPad. however, just weeks after the tablet was unveiled, Amazon will now adopt Apple’s price structure when the iPad starts shipping in March.

Finally, we found it. WE had been looking for a GREEN speck see-thru case for our duaghters 13″ MacBook (NOT a Pro). Apple stores NEVER seemed to have green. the Speck website was of no help. Amazon finally came through! However, we were confused…the title indicates ‘MacBook Pro 13-inch’, but the ‘Pro’ version of MacBooks starts at 15″. After much research all I could find out was that yes a 13″ MacBook is NOT A PRO, which meant that this was a typo and the cover SHOULD fit our daughters 13″ MacBook…and it DID! Perfectly! There’s been no greater subject in the publishing world of late than eReaders, eBooks, and the resulting changes in the industry.
Now, the game is about to change once more as Apple is set to unveil their version of the tablet computer. Tablets are nothing new, but they’ve failed to gain a foothold beyond utilitarian use. There’s no doubt Apple’s products are revolutionary, evolutionary, and everything in-between (look no further than the iPod or iPhone). now, if the sheer number of rumors hold any weight, Apple is about to change the eReader market.

Apple will resolve the e-book market’s deficiencies to capture new users. I think the problem with the e-reader market is that it is device dependent for now to maximize profits for the distributor — Amazon, Sony, Microsoft, Google, etc. OK. I never plan to get a Kindle or Sony e-reader because that is like a lost investment from day one in my opinion. If I could have an e-book reader custom designed, I would want these specs:1. Foldout capability like a book with two screens2. Mobile connectivity, e-mail, phone, fax, bluetooth3. Color display4. Multiple batteries or traditional battery packs that attach5. Ability to change fonts, text and image size, spot zoom, note-writing (stylus, touch screen, or external keyboard)6. Ability to skip 10-20 pages at a time7. Downloadable software which enables online dictionary, thesauraus, craigslist, wikipedia, amazon, and other http linkage with the book’s text (total reference/product placement)8. Ability to customize all functions9. Video/Music playback capability10. Word processing for diaries, memos, drafts, screenplays, reports, etc.11. Hard outer case which resembles a book, and can have display panels on the spine and covers for high-end users.12. I/O jacks for optimal innerconnectivity13. Multi-platform or open platform capability14. Camera (optional)15. Scanning capabilityWithout these features, it’s hard to see why someone would want another device to lug around unless they want to escape from all other communications capabilities.

Believe me, I’ve heard all variations of “Macs are too expensive” over the years. even when you point out to someone that Macs are often cheaper in the long run (less maintenance, longer functional life, no need to buy additional anti-virus or security software, etc., etc., etc.), many people can’t seem to get over the initial cost vs. Windows computers.

Apple’s alleged Kindle-killing tablet appears to be on the runway for a spring 2010 takeoff. and in what may or may not be related news, two top-drawer US publishers are holding back ebooks of dozens of their upcoming major titles until the same time frame.
According to one analyst’s “supply chain sources,” mass production of Apple’s long-rumored “iPad” is scheduled to ramp up in February, with release to follow in March or April. so says Yair Reiner, senior analyst for Applied Technology and Apple specialist at the Oppenheimer & Co. investment firm.

Yesterday’s request for Betanews readers to answer “What would you use an Apple tablet, or any other, for?” has brought plenty of answers, perhaps because the post — “The world doesn’t need an Apple tablet, or any other” — was so provocative. I wrote that post to bring some sanity to the outrageously loud Apple tablet hype. Instead, the post stirred up geek emotions and several, pointed rebuttal blogs (Marc Flores, Robert Scoble and MG Siegler, among others). I won’t defend yesterday’s post here. It stands or falls on its merits.

One Laptop per Child is a charity run by Nicholas Negroponte. their goal is to provide laptops to every child in the developing world. One of the ways they do this is by selling their ultra-cheap machines to Westerners for double the price. that way you get a laptop, and you get to buy a laptop for some kid in Uganda or Somalia or Canada (I kid!). while the current versions of the OLPC are fairly unimpressive, the XO-3, Negroponte’s design for the 2012 OLPC, looks incredible.
