Sony Enters Netbook Market with New Addition to Vaio Line – Super Free Laptop
If you are a dedicated Sony Vaio user and have been waiting for Sony to introduce a netbook model in this line, your patience has been rewarded! In August, 2009 Sony will introduce a new netbook, the W-Series.
While Sony’s model is a latecomer to the burgeoning netbook market, the company claims that the delay was an intentional part of its product planning strategy.
Netbook to Be First Launched in Japan
The new netbook will be launched in Japan at the beginning of August with the United States and Europe to follow shortly after the launch. The new Vaio netbook is expected to be offered in the price range of around 0 and will operate on a lower grade of specs than most Sony computers. It will utilize the Windows XP Home Edition operating system and will offer an upgraded and extremely responsive keyboard.

Its beautiful, it really is, a little heavier than I thought it would be, the screen is magnificent and my biggest surprise was how snappy it is. Opening apps, pictures and browsing stuff is just surprisingly fast for a device that small, especially if you have spent some time with an Atom powered netbook like I did in the past months, I was expecting something like that and was amazed by the speed. Battery time is ok. The big problem is your fingers will show on that huge screen as they keep touching in, they seem to stay much more than on an iPhone 3GS. I keep cleaning my iPad. Instead of doing a review by features, I will do a review by most common usage I (was) expecting. Reading books the good: I have been reading for months on a Kindle then a Kindle DX and was pleased to see that Kindle for iPad was already available, all the books I have in my virtual library showed up immediately and the book I am reading now, Born to Run, opened at the page I left it on the Kindle. Turning pages is really fast and if you have books with graphics or photos (I bought a book on learning photography) it just does not compare to the Kindle as it shows instantly (the Kindle takes a long time to show complex graphics) and in color. the bad: It is poorly sunlight readable and you cant read on an iPad with sunglasses on (at least with polarized sunglasses like I have), you surprisingly cant get two pages of a book show in landscape mode and if you have any kindle subscription for press …

Over the past year or two I’ve seen plenty of Macbook Air knockoffs come out of China. But M.I.C. Gadget has the first photos I’ve seen of a knockoff that goes the extra mile and actually comes in a box labeled MacBook Air.
Under the hood, this machine is all netbook, with a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and 4 cell battery. it sells for under $300 and ships with Windows XP instead of OS X. even though the box quite clearly shows a picture of a MacBook Air with OS X installed. in fact, when you open the box you get a driver disc and Apple instruction manual. Unforutnately you also get a notebook that looks vaguely like a MacBook Air, but not quite like the product pictured on the box.

This is exactly where I need a gaming device to fit. I think there’s going to be a lot of kids becoming exposed the the Apple brand very early on. It’s easier for you to bring your baby to a large touchscreen device for activities and games than for you to do it with a netbook or ANY OTHER type of computer. I’m a casual gamer myself, so most of what I want to play is crosswords, Peggle, Civilization if I want to spend more time, or group board games if I’m with friends. I buy three magazines a month and the newspaper once a week. That might increase if I can do that from the device instantly. Continue reading »

Netbooks: they’re no iPads, but they’re often more.
In the world of Apple, being a Netbook is a bad, bad thing. during Apple’s keynote for the newly announced iPad, the Netbook was called out by Steve Jobs, who said “they’re not better at laptops than anything, they’re just cheaper.” The affordable, tiny, and yes, often bare-bones Atom processor-running device we’ve come to know and love, or hate, as the Netbook is often clunky and frequently disappointing, true enough.
