A rough three-day estimate, based on an analysis of order numbers: 152,000 units
After the initial burst of excitement on Friday that saw iPad pre-orders coming in at the rate of 25,000 per hour, there was a dramatic fall-off over the weekend.
According to Daniel Tello, the Venezuelan blogger-analyst who has been tracking order numbers submitted by volunteers at Investor Village’s AAPL Sanity board, orders on Saturday and Sunday slowed to an estimated 1,000 per hour.

Say the words “tablet computer” and ten bucks says it’s Apple’s iPad that springs to mind. but that doesn’t mean other companies aren’t busy building their own version of a touch-enabled, multimedia-sporting, slab of portable computing goodness.
Dell’s first effort at a tablet will be the Mini 5 (a name that is still in beta) — a slice of plastic and glass with a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen that according to Michael Dell will debut “in a couple of months.”

NEW YORK — Apple brings out its iPad tablet computer in late March, but other companies are already preparing a new batch of tablets running Windows. Judging by a model that’s already out, the $550 Archos 9, the Windows tablets have a rough road ahead.
Windows just doesn’t seem at home when squeezed into this 1.8-pound slab, with a touch-sensitive screen that is 8.9 inches on the diagonal. It’s sluggish, and the controls aren’t adapted to the size of the screen or the fact that there’s no real keyboard or mouse.

According to a reliable source Apple will be starting the presale of the iPad as soon as February 25th. Presale will be US only, and should be limited to the Wi-Fi version for now. if Apple holds to the announced schedule, you should then receive your iPad within approximately 30 days.

The iBook store, the marketplace for electronic books on Apple’s forthcoming iPad, will sell e-books wrapped in digital rights management software, according to sources quoted in the L.A. Times. Apple phased out DRM songs from the iTunes store a year ago, but a majority of publishers are expected to use FairPlay copy protection software for their e-books.
